What Makes Us Tick?

Personalized Learning:

Students set goals and work on core skills in mathematics and literacy at their own pace for about 2 hours per day. This can include learning software, engaging books, and other resources that help them master skills in these subjects. Throughout this time, students are encouraged to take frequent movement breaks and are actively supported by a guide who meets them where they are and helps them keep moving forward in a personalized way.

Community Engagement:

Our multi-age classrooms create a supportive and dynamic environment where children learn to communicate effectively with people of all ages, fostering a strong sense of community. Group projects, Socratic discussions, and purposeful play give learners plenty of opportunities to learn about a variety of subjects(such as history, science, geography, etc.) while also growing in self-awareness and social skills like communication.

Balanced and Flexible Approach:

It is important to balance academic growth with other parts of a child’s life. We do not assign mandatory homework because we believe that there is much that is learned and built at home that school can not provide, such as deep connections with family and friends, healthy routines and time to explore interests outside of what we are learning at Courage Lab(be it sports, music or some other hobby). Additionally, life is sometimes unpredictable. Sometimes illness disrupts our regular schedules, or opportunities to travel or visit with extended family come up. By leveraging mastery-based learning and intentional planning, we are able to be flexible with families and help accommodate learners’ needs.
